B.Tech Petroleum Engineering

About the department:

NRI Institute of Technology, Hyderabad is one of the top engineering colleges offering B.Tech and M.Tech programs in various disciplines. Department of Petroleum Engineering offers UG Program B.Tech Petroleum engineering. Petroleum Engineering is the branch of engineering that involves the development and exploitation of crude oil and natural gas fields as well as the technical analysis and forecasting of their future performance. Petroleum engineering overlaps with many of the engineering disciplines, such as: Mechanical, Chemical, and Civil.

Petroleum geology and geophysics focus on provision of a static description of the hydrocarbon reservoir rock, while petroleum engineering focuses on estimation of the recoverable volume of this resource using a detailed understanding of the physical behavior of oil, water and gas within porous rock at very high pressure.

Its origins lie in both mining engineering and geology. The petroleum engineer, whose aim is to extract gaseous and liquid hydrocarbon products from the earth, is concerned with drilling, producing, processing, and transporting these products and handling all the related economic and regulatory considerations.

B.Tech Petroleum engineering graduates have a future full of challenges and opportunities. They must develop and apply new technology to recover hydrocarbons from oil shale, tar sands, and offshore oil and gas fields. They must also devise new techniques to recover oil left in the ground after application of conventional producing techniques.

As many petroleum companies conduct worldwide operations, petroleum engineers have the opportunity for assignments all over the world. B.Tech in Petroleum engineering graduates must solve the variety of technological, political, and economic problems encountered in these assignments. These exciting challenges combine to offer a petroleum engineer a most rewarding career.

Be able to successfully apply advanced concepts of petroleum engineering science to the formulation and solution of complex petroleum engineering problems.

You may consider Petroleum Engineering if you have:

  • Interest in gaining knowledge & Understanding of natural resource recovery, oil and gas exploration, production and development.
  • Strong desire to successfully apply the concepts of petroleum engineering science to the formulation and solution of complex petroleum engineering problems.
  • Zeal in developing the latest machines and equipments that can be used in the extraction and processing of oil & optimize productivity using petroleum engineering principles.
  • Management ability & want to develop skills in planning, designing, inspecting, supervising, and constructing oil and gas wells.
  • Will to get employed in oil and natural gas exploration, production and processing, refining, oil and gas pipeline construction, gas utilities, as well as a variety of related activities associated with refining and transportation.
