Traditional Day Celebrations – 4th May – 2009
Who would wear what, how would each one’s attire look like, who is going to dress like whom...?. What should one put on for the traditional day… would one stand out and make a difference? Purchases… estimations… speculations… guesses… Oh! What not…
This was what every one went through on the day before the Traditional Day. A faculty member comes with a dazzling silk sari; another one comes in a white Kurtha Paizama etc. On this day the teachers competed with students but in vein. The students were simply superb – one girl comes in a silky flowery sparkling white dress; another in an appealing red sari. One young boy dressed as a farmer, one as Late CM Y. S Rajashekhar Reddy. One imitated Shawar Ali, one dressed as John Abraham, one boy wore a marvelous suit and another, a true Hyderabadi Sherwani. A student holding a flower actually looked like a flower holding another flower.
That day was jubilant, full of life, bustling with youth and vigor. It felt as if we were on an island, exotica. It was beauty personified; elegance from every walk of life. The students exchanged roses and thus complimented each other.
The participants were posed with short, tricky and giggling questions testing their time sense, humor and preparedness to handle the unexpected.
After the ramp walk and rose exchanging, the judges discussed their observations, selected the winners and the chairman announced the Mr. Rose, Miss. Rose and Mr. NRI and Miss. NRI. The winners were crowned and gifted with prizes.
Infosys Trip
SPARK
Infosys Technologies Limited has launched several programs aimed at evolving
a model through which Infosys and academic institutions can partner for
competitiveness, enhance the pool of highly capable talent or growth
requirements in the Information Technology(IT)space.
One such initiative started by Infosys, which has touched the lives of more
than 36000 young people and nearly 2400 members of faculty in last couple of
years, is SPARK. An extraordinary program that aims to raise the aspirations
of students. Through this on-campus event conducted by volunteers,
participating students assess their industry readiness and check their
aspirations meter.
Our college with its managements deep roots in IT Industry were able to secure opportunity to participate in the SPARK program for 2010 and taken the students to INFOSYS-Hyderabad Campus. Volunteers of Infosys educated students about the IT Industry, types of jobs and Opportunities available for them. They also taught them about the Projects, steps involved in the execution of a project. Finally the students were asked to prepare a Project plan to celebrate college Annual Day and make presentation of the same. It was an event that will be etched in their minds forever.
After the students returned from this, they all felt accomplished with loads of energy and enthusiasm. They were not the same as before. This visit proved to be very informative and educative; SPARK enabled them in predicting their future, set goals and plan their academics accordingly.
Projects:
Some projects were undertaken by the students right in their first year of their Engineering course to get hands on experience in participating in projects. Some of the important ones are detailed below.
Projects in CSE/ECE departments:
Anatomy of a Modern Computer: Lists all the components of a computer and affix them on a 3ft x 3ft or 3ft x 4ft plank. This project explains each component and its function in a computer and at the end assembles them so that it functions like a computer.
Evolution and Anatomy of Computer Components: Lists the current and previous generation computer components. This project collected various new and old computer components and affix them on a 2.5ft x 4ft plank. This would describe each component’s history, design and function.
Projects for Civil/ME:
1. Multimedia Cart: Design and fabricate a Multimedia cart housing a computer, monitor, and projector along with built-in electrical connections. It proved to be sturdy and had wheels so that it can be moved easily.
2. Display Cases: Design and Fabricate showcases for Projects 1 & 2 of CSE/ECE. Get the exact dimensions from them and built the accessories that would help in building the above estimations and designs.
